Let’s ensure housing policy includes women and children
The Pan-Canadian Voice for Women’s Housing (PCVWH) is a national project focused on ensuring housing policies across Canada include and prioritize women and children. We host an annual symposium to give women a space to discuss changes they’d like to see to housing policies at the local, regional and national level. Since our first symposium in 2017, we’ve encouraged intersectional and inclusive participation.
We’ve successfully facilitated urgent and timely discussions, which have inspired our flagship Calls to Actions. We’ve also made important recommendations to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), which have helped with the development of the National Housing Strategy.
“Housing is not a privilege or a commodity. It is a basic human right.”
Progress is within reach
Our mission is to ensure safe and affordable housing for women and children across Canada is prioritized. We believe policies and funding should reflect this demand.
Meet the women behind our symposium
Our annual symposium exists thanks to 15 powerful individuals. Each has extensive experience advocating for and creating safe and equitable housing for women and children.

In October 2016, the women’s community made a request to CMHC to support a national conversation about women’s housing. This conversation would feature women with lived expertise and women’s organizations.
Our request was immediately supported and ultimately funded by CMHC along with Status of Women Canada (SWC) and Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). The first Pan-Canadian Voice for Women’s Housing took place in Toronto on September 14 and 15, 2017.

Women’s housing needs advocates like you
Women’s housing in Canada requires more funding and attention. Women experiencing homelessness and fleeing violence are often excluded from the dialogue around housing justice and affordability. Your input will ensure barriers are lifted.
